An assistance dog for Silke

Living independently again despite ME/CFS & Parkinson’s

Silke lives with severe ME/CFS and Parkinson’s disease. Two chronic illnesses that severely restrict her independence. A specially trained assistance dog can help her to cope with everyday life – and also relieve the burden on her relatives.

Please help. Every donation gives hope.

Silke tells

“My name is Silke and I would like to tell you my story myself.
I suffer from severe ME/CFS and early-onset Parkinson’s disease. I used to be full of energy – I drove a truck, renovated an old farm and loved motorcycles and horses.
Today I am severely disabled, an early retiree and dependent on care.

My everyday life is characterized by extreme exhaustion, pain, tremors, dizziness, coordination problems and hypersensitivity to stimuli.
I live alone on the lower floor of my house – with a care degree, electric wheelchair and one wish: more participation, more safety, more dignity.

An assistance dog can enable me to do just that.”

What an assistance dog can do for Silke

  • Bring objects
  • Open doors
  • Calming anxiety
  • Warn against overloading
  • Helping to take off clothes
  • Press the emergency button in emergency situations
  • Giving security – day and night

Goal and financing

Assistance dogs Helfende Pfoten accompanies Silke on this journey – with a lot of experience, empathy and a training concept specially tailored to her.

But: The health insurance company does not cover the costs. Only guide dogs for the blind are eligible for reimbursement. There is currently no financial support for other types of assistance dogs – especially not for pensioners.

Silke’s goal:

📌 28,500 € for purchase, training, veterinary care and support in the first two years
📌 approx. 55,000 € over the entire lifetime of the dog
