A new life for Tobias - with Leo at his side

Tobias Meyer from Bremen was in the middle of life when a coronavirus infection threw him off course. The diagnosis:

ME/CFS – myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome.

A severe neuroimmunological disease that is still incurable today.

Since then, nothing has been the same

Tobias is permanently exhausted. Light, noises, social contacts – all this can completely overstimulate him. A shopping trip, a visit to the doctor or even a short conversation can trigger a so-called “crash”: Days, sometimes weeks of complete powerlessness. Work? Unthinkable. Independence? A pipe dream.

And yet there is hope.

Leo - an assistance dog for ME/CFS

Leo is a black Labrador with a gentle nature and keen instincts. He can already sense when Tobias is overwhelmed. He will learn to support Tobias in everyday life:

  • stabilize it when the circulation fluctuates
  • Bringing objects, opening doors
  • to warn him of overload at an early stage
  • and simply give him the feeling: You are not alone.

“Leo doesn’t just give me help – he gives me hope.” – Tobias

Leo is trained by the non-profit organization Assistenzhunde Helfende Pfoten gGmbH. The work here is individual, loving and professional – with the aim of giving people like Tobias back a bit of dignity and independence.

That's why your donation is important

Support is needed so that Leo can stay by Tobias’ side permanently: the costs for training, care and support amount to around €30,000 – a sum that Tobias cannot raise on his own.

Help Leo fulfill his mission: as an animal companion, supporter – and beacon of hope.

By the way: The regional magazine buten un binnen reported on Tobias and Leo.
