Assistance dog Max would like to retire...
Assistance dog Max has been accompanying his team partner Anja for several years.
He is slowly approaching retirement age and his successor Milow is waiting in the wings.
Please help us to accompany Milow on his way to becoming an assistance dog, just like Max did back then.
Hello all you lovely people out there,
this is assistance dog Max.
Do you remember me?
A few years ago you accompanied me on my way to becoming a PTSD assistance dog.
A lot has happened in the last few years, I’ve grown older and wiser and my team partner has been able to do some things with me by her side that would otherwise have been impossible.
But of course her illness has not disappeared.
How could it? One of the characteristics of a disability is that it doesn’t just disappear.
There are hardly any treatment options left for Anja.
But we assistance dogs can help a lot and support Anja.
Since my first appearance as a (future) assistance dog, a lot has also changed legally.
A lot has improved, but funding is still a big issue.
And this is where I am asking for your support once again.
I would like to slowly prepare for my retirement as an assistance dog.
But to make sure Anja is in good hands, little Milow moved in a few weeks ago.
Milow is a Miniature American Shepherd, just like me.
However, he doesn’t wear elegant black and white but is a colorful red and white.
When Milow is perhaps as sensible as I am in a year or a year and a half, he should do the special training to become a PSB assistance dog.
Just like me, he should then learn to
* lead Anja out of an unpleasant situation,
* take her to the exit or to a seat,
* wake her up from nightmares and flashbacks,
* calm her down in upsetting situations,
* switch lights on and off,
* divert my attention from stressful situations.
Of course, Milow will also accompany Anja in everyday life later on, giving her a sense of security when shopping or going to the authorities.
I’ll be responsible for the leisure activities, as I’ll be a pensioner’s dog.
The entire training, including basic training, the state-mandated vet check, special training and the new state assistance dog team test, is expected to cost €18,000.
We can’t afford this on our own, can you please help us?
