Hello everyone! My name is Maria, and I would like to share my story with you. I have been diagnosed with severe post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and on the recommendation of my compassionate psychiatrist, I am embarking on a journey of healing with the help of an amazing assistance dog.
The difficult path:
In 2020, I took a significant step in my life by accepting a new job in another city. However, little did I know that the world would be gripped by the turmoil of the COV ID-19 pandemic, making everything so much more difficult. Being away from my family during these difficult times and a stressful work environment exacerbated my anxiety. Watching loved ones struggle with COV ID-19 brought back memories of traumatic events from my childhood and my PTSD kicked in.
The daily challenge:
Since then, panic attacks and episodes of dissociation have been part of my everyday life. I am on indefinite sick leave and receive ongoing support from my incredible medical team of psychiatrists and psychologists. However, unpredictable panic attacks and dissociation episodes make coping with my daily life, especially in public, extremely difficult. I rely heavily on my partner to complete everyday tasks, such as shopping or even just enjoying a relaxing cup of coffee in the city center.
The solution: Fritz
After extensive research and under the guidance of my medical team, we found the perfect match for me – a sweet and lovable 1.5 year old dog named Fritz. Through professional training, Fritz can become my assistance dog and make a significant difference in my life.
A glimmer of hope:
Fritz’s impact as an assistance dog would be life-changing. Trained to recognize
panic attacks, apply deep pressure therapy and provide comfort in social situations, Fritz would be a safety in crowds. The ability to bring medication and water, interrupt nightmares and signal me when I need to leave a stressful situation would restore my independence and allow me to manage everyday tasks normally.
Your support is important:
We have already been able to raise 5,000 euros, but now there is a crucial step ahead – Fritz’s training and assessment, which will cost a total of 10,000 euros. Due to my long period of sick leave, this alone is a financial challenge for me.
Join me on my healing journey:
So I humbly turn to you all for support. Your kindness and generosity will not only help cover the cost of Fritz’s education, but will also bring me one step closer to regaining control of my life. With your help, I am confident I can overcome my PTSD and face the world with courage.
Thank you very much:
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to read my story. Every contribution, big or small, will have a remarkable impact. Together we can make a positive change in my life and raise awareness of the importance of assistance dogs for people with PTSD. Let’s go on this journey together, and with Fritz’s help, I am confident I can find my way back to a brighter and more fulfilling life. Your support means the world to me. With heartfelt gratitude,
Maria
