A puppy “on time”… sponsor family for future assistance dogs

A puppy sits on the lawn and looks at the cameraPuppies like Arthur become lifesavers for their disabled or chronically ill humans.

But before it is so far we need help: from YOU as PATENFAMILIE

What does a sponsor family do?

The future assistance dog lives as a full-fledged family member in the house, experiences the complete everyday life and gets additional training from an experienced trainer. Ideally, the sponsor family offers what the trainer himself cannot offer: a lot of contact with children, for example, or cats, other animals, living in the city center or very rural….

Who is eligible to be a sponsoring family:

People who enjoy helping a puppy / young dog get started on a great future. People who already have dog experience, time and fun to experience a lot with the young dog.

Existing dogs should be rather calm and accept that the puppy / young dog requires a lot of attention. Large “construction sites” (leash aggression, for example) must not be present in the existing dog. Very welcome other animals (cats, small animals, poultry, horses….).

How is the sponsor family supported?

Each sponsor family is assigned an experienced trainer. This person also accompanies the basic training and socialization. In addition, the sponsor families are of course provided with the equipment and food, veterinarian, tax and insurance are taken over.

But the puppy / young dog moves out again….

Yes, this must be clear to the sponsoring family from the beginning. The joy and

living together are limited in time. Depending on the agreement, the

Young dog between the 8th and 15th month of life to the trainer and will be

there intensively further prepared for his task.

Unfortunately, we cannot place any more dogs in foster families at this time!

One of our sponsor families reports:

Assistance dog Aurora stands with her front paws on a tree stump

I read about a dog adoption in an animal magazine. I knew right away that this was a fascinating task for me. I have always enjoyed working with dogs very much and so I could additionally do something very valuable with it. That the dog walks again after some time, I imagined a bit strange. But I thought, you know that from the beginning, so you can adjust to it right away.

The Helping Paws gave me Aurora, a Labradoodle. She took my heart by storm and we had a very nice time with a lot of fun. We visited the dog school, plus the training with Helfenden Pfoten e.V.

Time passed very quickly, suddenly goodbye was just around the corner. Today Aurora was supposed to go. I could not really imagine that at all. Mr. Küsters came and after completing the formalities we did not even long. As a matter of course, Aurora jumped into the car. I said goodbye, which was not easy for me. The door closed and they drove off. I went back into the house with mixed feelings. Sad because she was gone and proud because I had made a difference with her. She is taking something away from our time together that will help her on her way to becoming an assistance dog for a disabled girl. Then a warming inner satisfaction crept over me and I realized: I’m going on!

A heartfelt thank you to our sponsoring families:
